Integration and Test Engineer

We are seeking an Integration & Test Engineer to play a pivotal role in the development, integration, and validation of advanced autonomous marine systems. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you will be responsible for bringing together hardware, software, sensors, and control systems into fully integrated platforms that perform safely, reliably, and effectively in demanding maritime environments.

This is a highly hands‑on role that spans system integration, verification and validation, troubleshooting, and sea trials, offering exposure to the full engineering lifecycle from laboratory development through to real‑world operational deployment of autonomous vessels.

• Integrating hardware, software, and firmware components across complex autonomous marine platforms
• Configuring, calibrating, and validating sensor suites including GNSS, INS, sonar, radar, and navigation sensors
• Supporting the integration of embedded controllers, communications systems, mission management software, and external subsystems
• Working closely with software, electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers to resolve cross‑discipline integration challenges
• Developing, executing, and documenting structured test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria at subsystem and system level
• Conducting bench testing, environmental testing, hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing, and sea trials to verify performance and functionality
• Monitoring and analysing test data, system logs, and performance metrics to identify anomalies and trends
• Supporting fault diagnosis, root cause analysis, and resolution of issues arising during development, integration, or deployment
• Producing clear, accurate test documentation, integration records, and configuration management data
• Ensuring test and integration activities align with marine safety, regulatory, and quality standards
• Contributing to risk assessments, hazard logs, and compliance documentation as required
• Providing feedback into design reviews and supporting design‑for‑testability and verification strategies
• Supporting the continued development of test facilities, tooling, automation, and test processes to improve efficiency and robustness

• Degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electronics, Robotics, or a related technical discipline
• Experience in system integration and testing of complex electromechanical, embedded, or autonomous systems
• Strong understanding of electronics, sensors, and communication interfaces (e.g. CAN, Ethernet, serial protocols)
• Hands‑on experience with hardware setup, wiring, instrumentation, and a range of test equipment
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
• Proven ability to analyse system logs, datasets, and performance metrics to diagnose and resolve issues
• A structured, methodical approach to troubleshooting and problem solving
• Experience working with real‑time systems, robotics, autonomous platforms, or similar technologies
• Familiarity with embedded software or control systems
• Experience using version control systems, configuration management tools, and defect‑tracking systems
• Willingness to work in a dynamic environment, including occasional fieldwork or sea testing

• Experience within the marine, defence, aerospace, autonomy, or other safety‑critical sectors
• Knowledge of maritime sensor technologies such as sonar, AIS, radar, and navigation systems
• Familiarity with regulated or safety‑critical standards (e.g. DEF STAN, ISO, IMO)
• Ability to script or automate tests using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools
• Experience with networking, middleware, or robotics frameworks (e.g. DDS, ROS, simulation tools)
• Understanding of RF systems, telemetry, and remote communications
• Confidence working in marine test environments or operating small vessels (certifications beneficial)
